Straw Bale Construction Workshops

Constructing the walls in a straw bale home can be a community event. Semmes & Co., Builders often hosts a Straw Bale Workshop during the course of constructing each straw bale home. Participants learn the basics of straw bale construction and how it integrates with the overall structure by actually stacking bales and building the walls with a trained supervisor. Each team works on a section of the building employing their new knowledge to create a completed straw bale wall.

Workshops normally start with an introduction and overview of the techniques of straw bale construction by our highly skilled job supervisors. Participants then split into teams of 8-10 members with one of our “wall captains.”

This is an excellent way for the prospective straw bale homeowner to gain some hands-on experience in how their straw bale home will be built.

At the end of the workday, we serve a wonderful dinner to all the hard working participants.
