Earthen Walls

This residence was constructed in 2001 and 2002. All three of the structures -main house, guesthouse, and detached garage- are built using the earthen wall technique called PISE (Pneumatically Impacted Stabilized Earth). Very detailed wall forms are constructed, and then an earthen mixture with some white and gray cement is shot with gunnite machinery at the forms. This creates an 18" thick wall with a stucco exterior and a travertine marble looking interior. Specially formed deep window sills enhance the feeling that this building has been here forever.

Upgraded plumbing and tile treatments compliment the unique cabinetry. A screened in porch captures the breezes from the ocean view.

A hydronic heating system keeps the entire house evenly warm on cold days. No air conditioning is required even on the hottest summer days.
