Paso Robles Countryside (Straw Bale Construction)

This west side Paso Robles straw bale residence is comfortable, inviting, and presents itself like a work of art.   It possesses good southern exposure, lots of mass, and the R-50 value of straw bale insulation, all of which make it a natural for passive solar heating and cooling techniques.

Daylighting, in floor hydronic heating, great ventilation, and a photovoltaic solar electric system complete the picture of its energy efficiency. Even in 100-degree summer temperatures, no air conditioning is necessary.

Its artistic qualities are enhanced by lime plaster walls, natural wood counters, custom built cabinets, stained concrete floors, and hand painted tiles.  The twenty four inch thick straw bale walls create deep recessed windows and doors with many cozy window seats to curl up in.

The owners feel a special connection to their home in that they helped to stack the straw bales in the walls at a straw bale raising party they and Semmes and Company hosted. {Find out more about our Straw Bale Construction Workshops.)
